Today I stumbled upon a Chinese edition of Make magazine, the geeky DIY mag that covers everything from nanotechnology to rocket science, with the explicit advice to do try this at home. The Chinese name 爱上制作 (ài shàng zhì zuò) can be translated to love to make.
The bookshop where I found it only had 4 issues in stock, and I bought issue #3 just for the nerd factor.
Long before Make in China became a reality, Made in China has been a world- wide brand for decades. The Chinese are known for copying anything they can get their hands on, and in the streets of Nanning you can occasionally spot a Chinese look-alike of the famous Smart city car, popular in Europe for its ability to fit in the tiniest of parking spots. As Chinese cities are more and more facing the same problems, it might become a hit here too.
