Menorca

Menorca is still a little gem of an island in the Mediterranean, despite tourism and an invasion of permanent foreign residents. It's a hangout for rich Spaniards with big yachts, and mostly British and German sun seekers. The capital Mahon is a small and quiet old town overlooking a beautiful natural harbour.
I have been to Menorca numerous times since I was 12 years old, so I know almost every corner of it. It didn't change much since I was there two and half years ago, just got a little bit more tidy and luxurious. A new generation is slowly taking over. Lots of old and crumbling houses are for sale, and new trendy bars and restaurants are popping up after renovations. The sizes of the yachts in the harbour are getting bigger each time I visit.
Restaurants change owner and scale up a notch. We went to a nice place overlooking the port of nearby Es Castell, where they served an excellent 4-course menu with nice appetizers and a leg of lamb from the oven, followed by home-made mojito icecream, including a nice bottle of red wine (from the Navarra region) and coffee, for just € 18,50 a head. A steal in this area, and with a view to die for. We had to walk home because we missed the last bus, but that helped in digesting.
I also found a pair of handsome flip-flops (Reef), with a foot bed made of woven reeds, and leather straps. Heavily discounted, and thus affordable. I was in dire need of a new pair since the ones I bought last year in China had almost fallen apart. Shopping in Spain proved to be quite successful!
