In reaction (or anticipation) of coverage of the Nobel prize award ceremony, China decided to deny its citizens access to BBC News online. Since yesterday the website can not be reached anymore from within China.
China is furious about the Nobel committee's decision to award the Peace price to a well-known Chinese dissident, currently in jail serving a 11 year sentence for openly criticizing the political system. Chinese media are publishing a relentless stream of propaganda to prevent people from sympathizing with the winner, and is boycotting the award ceremony. To enrage China even more, Taiwanese president Ma Ying-jeou today congratulated the winner and demanded his immediate release from prison, like many other leaders (including Obama) did before him.
