If I had known that I could not live on campus until at least 3 months from now, I would have started already a week ago to find an apartment, and save myself the cost of living in a hotel.
Luckily, there are plenty of rental agents in the area. I visited 5 sofar, and have seen 3 apartments, with 2 more on the agenda. I made a first attempt to arange a viewing with the help of a local, who called a landlord for me and setup an appointment for 8AM this morning. However, when I got there, there was nobody, and after I called half an hour later, the person did not understand what I wanted, or I did not understand the reason why there was nobody at the place. Anyhow, this first attempt failed. That's when I started noticing the little real-estate agency's sprinkled around the neighbourhood. The English spoken there is very limited, and so is my Chinese, but I managed to get some viewings. Unfortunately Yanyan is already in class, so not able to help me during business hours, but I'm doing fine on my own. It's actually quite entertaining to communicate in broken English and Chinese with the young office boys and girls who are very eager to make a good impression.
